Also, the ink cartridge holder will not move anymore after that, so unless you break it open (which I have done - ink is expensive to replace)., you waste the ink when you throw out the printer. I do use it pretty often, but I wish it lasted longer.
I am a pastor, and I use it to print images on my sermon CDs, which gives them a very professional touch and the print quality is excellent. This printer also does very well printing on paper, and I have used this model in my office for 3 or 4 years now.
I bought this printer to use because it prints on CDs and DVDs, and it works great for that. The only complaint I have for this is that I have had to replace it twice in the last 3 years.
I am impressed with the quality of the print jobs, and I also like that the color ink cartridges are sold individually. That way they can be replaced individually, and the color quality is better than I have seen in single unit color cartridges.
After a year or so, a message comes up that says some parts are in need of repair, and it will not print after that. Other than that, I have been very happy with the Epson R series printers.
The BLACK cartridge was FULL though.I went to Office Max to buy replacements for the FIVE other color cartridges. While the finished product may look nice off the printer, BEWARE, this printer will cost you A LOT of money to operate. Total. I needed to quickly print a document in BLACK and WHITE, however, the printer alerted me that it was out of ink. I shook all the color cartridges and heard juice flowing in each of them, however, apparently it wasn't enough for the printer to recognize. $[.].I spoke to the Office Max printer guy and he said EPSON "makes their money" by not allowing printing unless ALL cartridges have a good amount of ink in them. He also stated he could refill other brands' cartridges, however, Office Max will "get into big trouble" if they attempt to refill EPSON ink.
However, for the price, it should last more than three years. This worked fine for me for three years. I spoke with Epson and they said it is broken (all it does is sit on my desk) and has to be repaired, but the repair will cost more than the cost of a new printer. I found that it does not work well with other ink brands and if you do not print for a week or two, it will clog. No problem-- a clean or two and it is back to normal. I am not impressed. $400+ printers should last for more than three years.
I love this little printer, it is the second one of it's type I have purchased. It prints bright vibrant colors which is important since I design greeting cards. Super simple to use. Can print on all types of paper.
I am totally fed up with this printer. It is very picky about feeding paper, installing ink cartridges, and pretty much only prints when it feels like printing. I am sick of having to turn it off/on to clear some bogus error that it thinks it is having to get it to print. This printer is a waste of my time, and I will not be replacing it with another Epson.
